You will be judged by your subordinates on your decision making. Who you fire, hire and promote affects your reputation. Showing that certain people are your favorites and giving certain people rewards all the time can make people experience bad morale, which is bad for business.

Take ownership in whatever you say. Accountability is a major component of top leadership. You are the center of your company, so what you say and do affects a lot of people and the business itself. Purpose Economy Changing Business With Women Leaders – Purpose Economy Women Entrepreneurs – Marie Claire

Peterson quickly brought on fashion manager Diana Russell and in December 2013, Rebel Nell — named after Eleanor Roosevelt’s nickname Little Nell — hired three women, one of which was living in a shelter while the other two were in transitional homes. Rebel Nell Team Today, all three women are still part of Rebel Nell’s creative designer team and all are out of shelters and supporting themselves and their families. This year, Peterson and Russell plan to add two more women from shelters to the team. The two co-founders continue working their regular full-time jobs and don’t pay themselves a salary at Rebel Nell so that their employees can make a living wage. In Atlanta, Courtney Hammond and Beth Malone started their company with a noble art mission in mind and ended up transforming entire abandoned neighborhoods into prime real estate. It started in 2009 when Malone, an art journalist, and Hammond, a sculpture, decided to come up with a platform to allow upcoming artists a way to get their work out into the world. The two Georgia State University graduates explored vacant, boarded up buildings around Atlanta for their shows. Unbeknownst to them, their shows attracted so much attention, those abandoned buildings would rent out and neighborhoods would thrive long after the artists left. One of their earlier shows in the historic east Atlanta neighborhood called Edgewood Avenue turned the neglected area into one of the most active nightlife corridors in the city. Since launching their non-profit Dashboard Co-op , Hammond and Malone have had around 20 shows and are now working with city planners. The co-founders plan to travel to other small growing cities in hopes of having a similar effect in developing neighborhoods. “In the past 12 shows that we’ve had, 11 of the spaces have rented out,” says Hammond. “These are entire floors, from high rises in downtown to small store fronts.” As desire for social good increases in popularity, it’s difficult to tell whether businesses that started with this mindset is merely a trend or something that will stick around.

Republican Governors’ Words Shift On Gay Marriage – Yahoo News

We’ve been talking about economic and fiscal issues. It’s those on the left that are pushing it.” Walker, like other ambitious Republican governors, is trying to strike a delicate balance. His comments come just days after he formally appealed a federal judge’s ruling striking down Wisconsin’s ban on same-sex marriages, a ban he supported. But after his party’s disastrous 2012 election, the Republican National Committee commissioned a report calling for more “inclusive and welcoming” tones on divisive social issues particularly those “involving the treatment and the rights of gays.” Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad asks a question during a meeting of the Health and Human Services Committee Walker explained his court appeal as simply as his obligation as governor to defend the state’s constitution. Other Republican governors, however, including New Jersey’s Republican Gov. Chris Christie, opted against appealing a similar ruling in his state, clearing the way for gay marriage to become legal there. “That is a very controversial and divisive issue,” said Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad, a Republican, suggesting that Republicans are better served by focusing on economic issues.

Simple Tricks And Tips On Managing Your Time

If you find yourself wondering what happened to your day, start thinking about time management. Everyone shares the same blocks of time; it’s just that some folks make better use of their time. Now, you can be one of those wise people. These are time management tips that can help you with these skills.

Make good use of a timer. If you are finding it difficult to concentrate on a particular task, set a timer for the number of minutes that you have to devote to the task. As an example, if you know you have an hour to devote to a task, do so by setting your timer in 20 minute increments, and take a little break in between each one.

Take the time to properly plan for the upcoming day. Lay out your plan for the day so you can know what to expect. As your day ends, create tomorrow’s to-do list. When you have your tasks already ordered, you can start working immediately.

Purchase a calendar to organize your tasks. Paper calendars are great for many people because you can write on them. Some people find success with electronic calendars that you can install on your phone or computer. Whichever method you like, you’ll find that using a calendar helps you keep on track for accomplishing your goals.

If time management seems overwhelming, simply work on one task at a time. If you are working on multiple projects all at once, it is hard to get anything accomplished. The quality of your work can decrease if you are tired or out of focus. Concentrate on breathing, relaxing and focusing on only one prodject until it is finished, then proceed to the next.

Look at your current techniques to see what is and is not working for you. Focus on the important tasks at hand. To improve you have to admit to inefficiencies and mistakes. Don’t let your pride get in the way.

Prioritize all the activities you do every day. Unfortunately, many people lose time on things that are not really important. When you prioritize your tasks, you make sure that the important things get the most time and energy from you. It’s important to make a priority list that shows what needs to be done by highest priority to lowest priority.

Consider how you are spending your time when you are concerned about time management. Consider the wisest use of your time. Only view your voice mails or emails if you’re able to use that time on them. Checking them when they come in takes away from the time already allocated for other things.

Every morning after waking up, take time for planning the day. Get something to write with and put down what things you want to do and the amount of time you will need to do each task. Keeping a schedule everyday will improve the efficiency of your time usage.

Use these tips to find out how time management can help you become successful. Adjusting your schedule and becoming organized will give you time for the more important things in your life. These suggestions are a fabulous place to begin.

If a worker goes beyond their job description, encourage them by giving them a gift or bonus. True leaders don’t pinch pennies with things like this.

Wh Report Blames “corrosive Culture,” Bad Leadership At Va For Deadly Corruption « Hot Air

This weeks Friday afternoon document dump highlighted the corrosive culture and incompetent leadership that went undetected by the Obama administration for more than five years and which got massive budget increases without any apparent scrutiny: The Veterans Affairs health care system needs to be overhauled because of unresponsive leadership and a corrosive culture that affects the delivery of medical care, said a report delivered Friday to President Barack Obama. It is clear that there are significant and chronic systemic failures that must be addressed by the leadership at VA, said the report prepared by Rob Nabors, who is Obamas deputy chief of staff and who the President dispatched to assess the situation at the troubled agency. The report called for an overhaul of leadership at the Veterans Medical Administration. It currently acts with little transparency or accountability with regard to its management of the VA medical structure, the report said. The VA central office could solve this problem with more transparency and by taking a more hands-on approach with regional leaders, the report said. The report also blames the metric on wait time as beingunrealistic. A 14-day average wait time to see a doctor is unrealistic? That would only be the case in a single-payer system.
